Upottery Airfield 1st & 2nd June 2018
I got invited to a special event at Upottery airfield. It was the first time a Dakota has landed and taken off from the disused runway since 1944. They were there for a para drop in Normandy on the Friday 1st June but the weather was rubbish most of the day and only managed one drop out of the two.
On the Saturday 2nd June she flew from Normandy back to Upottery airfield for the second drop. The weather was much better, I was lucky enough to fly in a Matt’s Cessna 421 Golden Eagle for an air to air as the Dakota came into Upottery and also on it’s way back to Normandy.
It was time to meet the Dakota over the south west coast on it’s way to Upottery.
Then it was time to load the Dakota with the parachutists
Then for a bit more air to air on it’s way to Normandy, we only stayed with her till the south coast and then headed back to Dunkeswell to land.
Finally we come to a few aircraft that visited Upottery during the event. A unique Percival Prentice T.1 was a highlight for me as I have never seen before.
